The Saskatchewan Roughriders and defensive back Nelson Lokombo agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2025 season on Friday.
Nelson Lokombo is five foot eleven and weighs 190 pounds. The 25-year-old Abbotsford, British Columbia, re-signed with the Roughriders on January 29, 2024. In 2024, he made 44 tackles, one tackle on special teams, one sack, and one forced fumble in 18 games.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders drafted Lokombo in the first round (2nd pick) of the 2021 CFL Draft. In 2022, Lokombo made 13 tackles, one tackle for loss, and one forced fumble in 12 games. In 2023, he made five tackles and four tackles on special teams in 11 games.
Collegiately, Lokombo played three seasons at the University of Saskatchewan (2017-19) making 101 tackles (89 solos, 26 assists), six tackles for loss, three sacks, ten interceptions for 260 yards, two touchdowns, 25 pass breakups, and three forced fumbles in 30 games for the Huskies. He was named First Team All-Canadian, Canada West All-Star, Canada West’s Outstanding Defensive Player, and won the Presidents’ Trophy in 2019.
