The Ottawa Redblacks and offensive lineman Jacob Ruby agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2025 season on Monday.
Jacob Ruby is six foot seven and weighs 325 pounds. The 32-year-old from London, Ontario, started 17 games for the Redblacks in 2024. In 2024, Ottawa’s offense averaged 366.9 net yards per game, 24.6 points per game, 83.7 rushing yards per game, 303.1 passing yards per game, 38 touchdowns, and tied sixth in sacks allowed (40).
The Montreal Alouettes drafted Ruby in the first round (8th pick) in the 2015 CFL Draft. Ruby played 20 games in two seasons in Montreal. The Edmonton Eskimos (Elks) signed Ruby on July 17, 2017. Ruby played 43 games for Edmonton.
The Ottawa Redblacks signed Ruby on January 22, 2022. In 2022, he played 18 games on his way to being named a CFL East All-Star. In 2023, he played 18 games. Ottawa’s offense finished sixth in average offense points (20.7), tied seventh in offensive touchdowns (33), last in average net offense (318.8), second in average rushing yards (127.6), last in average passing yards (220.4), and last in sacks allowed (71).
Collegiately, Ruby played four seasons at Richmond (2011-14) playing 48 games at left tackle for the Spiders. He was named All-CAA Third-Team and Second-Team VaSID All-State in 2014. In 2014, Richmond averaged 31.1 points per game, 147.1 rushing yards per game, 313.8 passing yards per game, 460.9 total yards per game, 53 touchdowns, and allowed 14 sacks finishing 9-5 for the season.
