The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed defensive lineman Shane Ray on Monday.
Shane Ray is six foot three and weighs 255 pounds. The 31-year-old from Kansas City, Missouri, was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the first round (31st pick) of the 2015 NFL Draft. He played four seasons in Denver making 94 tackles (64 solos, 30 assists), 15 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, two pass breakups, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one touchdown in 49 games, of which 15 were starts.
In 2015, he made 20 tackles (15 solos, 5 assists), five tackles for loss, four sacks, and one pass breakup helping the Broncos win Super Bowl 50 over the Carolina Panthers. He became a free agent after the 2018 season. The Baltimore Ravens signed Ray on May 17, 2019. In 2019, he made two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist), and half a sack in four preseason games. The Ravens released him on August 30, 2019.
The Toronto Argonauts signed Ray on December 8, 2021. He played two seasons making 17 tackles, six sacks, and two forced fumbles in 10 games. In 2022, he made 13 tackles, six sacks, and two forced fumbles when the Argonauts won the 109th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He became a free agent after the 2022 season. Ray would spend time with the Buffalo Bills and the Tennessee Titans for the next two seasons.
Collegiately, Ray played four seasons at Missouri (2011-14) making 120 tackles (82 solos, 38 assists), 35 tackles for loss, 19 sacks, one pass breakup, five forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one touchdown in 40 games for the Tigers. He was named First Team All-SEC, Unanimous All-American, and SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 2014.
