Calgary Stampeders defensive lineman Ryan Leder announced his retirement from football on Wednesday.
“I want to take a moment to extend my thanks to the Calgary organization, my teammates, coaches, trainers, and the incredible fans,” said Leder. “My time in the CFL has been truly unforgettable and I’ve learned so much and enjoyed every step of the journey.
“I am incredibly proud of my time in Calgary and deeply grateful for the opportunities and support provided by the staff this past year. I look forward to watching my teammates continue to succeed.”
Ryan Leder is six foot one and weighs 243 pounds. The 24-year-old from Hamilton, Ontario, made three tackles, two tackles on special teams, and one sack in 18 games for the Stampeders in 2024. The Stampeders drafted Leder in the fifth round (42nd pick) of the 2023 CFL Draft.
Collegiately, Leder played five seasons at McMaster University (2018-19, 2021-23) making 114 tackles (62 solos, 52 assists), 16 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, three pass breakups, five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and one blocked kick in 38 games for the Marauders. In 2023, Leder made 28 tackles (16 solos, 12 assists), three tackles for loss, three sacks, and one forced fumble in seven games.
