Memphis Showboats punter Matt White announced his retirement on Saturday according to Pro Football Newsroom writer James Larsen.
Matt White is six foot one and weighs 190 pounds. The 27-year-old from Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, was drafted by the Memphis Showboats in the 2024 UFL Dispersal Draft. In 2024, he punted the ball 35 times for 1,544 yards (44.1 AVG), with a long of 66 yards, one touchback, and 10 from inside the 20-yard line in 10 games.
White went undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft. He signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on February 20, 2020. However, the 2020 season was canceled due to COVID-19.
The New Orleans Breakers drafted White in the ninth round (349th pick) of the 2022 USFL Supplemental Draft. In 2022, White punted the ball 48 times for 2,123 yards (44.2 AVG), with a long of 77 yards, 15 from inside the 20-yard line, three touchbacks, and two kickoffs for 114 yards in ten games.
In 2023, he punted the ball 30 times for 1,347 yards (44.9 AVG), with a long of 68 yards, 11 from inside the 20-yard line, five touchbacks, and ten kickoffs for 706 yards in ten games. The Breakers re-signed White on September 19, 2023.
Collegiately, White played four seasons at Monmouth University (2014-17) punting the ball 151 times for 5,984 yards (39.6 AVG), with a long of 73 yards, three touchbacks, 36 fair catches, 43 from inside the 20-yard line, 19 from 50-plus yards, 122 kickoffs for 7,099 yards (58.2 AVG), 39 touchbacks, seven kicks out of bounds, and made 19 of 29 field goals (65.5%), with a long of 46 yards in 36 games for the Hawks.
