The Edmonton Elks re-signed offensive lineman Brett Boyko to a two-year contract through the 2026 season and defensive lineman Jacob Plamondon to a one-year contract extension through the 2025 season on Monday.
Brett Boyko is six foot seven and weighs 305 pounds. The 32-year-old from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, re-signed Boyko on January 10, 2024.
In 2024, Boyko started 15 games. Edmonton’s offense averaged 28 points per game, 390.3 net offense per game, 131.4 rushing yards per game, 271.7 passing yards per game, and 29 sacks allowed finishing 7-11 in the 2024 season. The Elks released him on January 30, 2025.
The B.C. Lions drafted Boyko in the second round (14th pick) in the 2015 CFL Draft but did not sign with them. Instead, he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015 and made the practice squad. Then, Boyko played one game in three seasons with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers. In 2019, he played eight games with the San Diego Fleet (AAF).
After San Diego, Boyko signed with the B.C. Lions on May 15, 2019, and played 15 games, of which five were starts. Then, he signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on March 1, 2021, and made eight starts in eight games.
The Orlando Guardians signed Boyko on March 2, 2023. He played eight games for Orlando before the Guardians released him on July 7, 2023. The Edmonton Elks signed Boyko on July 3, 2023. In 2023, Boyko played 14 games, of which 13 were starts at right tackle.
Edmonton’s offense ranked last in points per game (20.4), fifth in touchdowns (41), seventh in average total yards (324.9), third in average rushing yards (123.6), eighth in average passing yards (221.1), and fifth in sacks allowed (52).
Collegiately, Boyko played five seasons at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (2010-14) playing 43 games for the Rebels. He was named Second Team All-Mountain West Conference in his senior year and was a four-time Academic All-Mountain West honoree. In 2014, UNLV averaged 257.8 passing yards per game, 129.2 rushing yards per game, 387.0 total yards per game, and 34 touchdowns.
Jacob Plamondon is six foot three and weighs 215 pounds. The 26-year-old from Red Deer, Alberta, made four tackles on special teams in 12 games for the Elks in 2024.
The Edmonton Elks drafted Plamondon in the second round (19th pick) of the 2022 CFL Draft. In 2022, he made two tackles on special teams in one game. In 2023, he made eight tackles on special teams in 18 games.
Collegiately, Plamondon played four seasons at the University of Calgary (2017-19, 2021) making 44 tackles (35 solos, 9 assists), 16 tackles for loss, eight sacks, two pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 33 games for the Dinos. In 2019, he made five tackles (5 solos), three tackles for loss, two sacks, one pass breakup, and one forced fumble when the Dinos won the 55th Vanier Cup over Montreal 27-13.
