Report: Memphis Showboats to sign QB/WR Kai Locksley

The Memphis Showboats are set to sign quarterback/wider receiver Kai Locksley on Monday according to the X account UFL Center.

Kai Locksley is six foot four and weighs 210 pounds. The 28-year-old from Ft. Washington, Maryland, did not play football in 2024.  

The Miami Dolphins signed Locksley as an undrafted free agent on March 23, 2021. In 2021, he made five catches for 46 yards in three preseason games. The Dolphins released him on August 31, 2021. The Edmonton Elks signed Locksley on January 12, 2022.

In 2022, Locksley completed 5 of 8 passes (62.5%) for 50 yards, 17 catches for 247 yards, 48 carries for 117 yards, seven touchdowns, and one tackle in 15 games. In 2023, he made nine carries for three yards and one tackle in three games. The Elks released him on June 26, 2023.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Locksley on July 5, 2023. He made three catches for 98 yards, one touchdown, 17 carries for 28 yards, two touchdowns, and one punt return for 11 yards in 15 games. He finished the 2023 season making three catches for 98 yards, one touchdown, 26 carries for 31 yards, two touchdowns, and one tackle in 18 games. He became a free agent after the 2023 season.

Collegiately, Locksley began at Texas in 2015 but did not play a game for the Longhorns. Next, he transferred to Arizona Western College in 2016 but did not play for the Matadors. Then, he transferred to Iowa Western Community College in 2017 completing 176 of 265 passes (66.4%) for 2,238 yards, 20 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, 112 carries for 705 yards, and 20 touchdowns in 12 games for the Reivers.

He led the Reivers to an 11-1 season winning The Graphic Edge Bowl and was named the 2017 Spalding NJCAA Offensive Player of the Year and earned First Team All-America honors. 

Finally, he transferred to UTEP (2018-19) completing 186 of 350 passes (53%) for 2,266 yards, 9 touchdowns, 14 interceptions, 237 carries for 875 yards, and 11 touchdowns in 20 games for the Miners.
