The Toronto Argonauts and quarterback Nick Arbuckle agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2025 season on Tuesday.
Nick Arbuckle is six foot one and weighs 213 pounds. The 31-year-old from Oxnard, California, attended the Pittsburgh Steelers rookie minicamp in 2016.
In 2017, Arbuckle signed with the Calgary Stampeders. He played two seasons in Calgary (2018-19) completing 191 of 263 passes (72.6%) for 2,247 yards, 12 touchdowns, five interceptions, 62 carries for 149 yards, and nine touchdowns in 36 games. Then, Calgary traded Arbuckle to Ottawa in 2020. However, the season was canceled and Arbuckle signed with the Toronto Argonauts in 2021.
Arbuckle played one season in Toronto completing 96 of 153 passes (62.7%) for 1,158 yards, five touchdowns, six interceptions, 17 carries for 25 yards, and two touchdowns in seven games. Afterward, Toronto traded him to the Edmonton Eskimos on October 26, 2021, for a 2022 third-round pick.
In 2022, Arbuckle played seven games for the Edmonton Elks completing 96 of 153 passes (62.7%) passes for 1,158 yards, five touchdowns, six interceptions, and three carries for nine yards in five games.
On July 11, 2022, the Edmonton Elks traded Arbuckle to the Ottawa Redblacks for a fourth-round pick. Arbuckle completed 217 of 308 passes (70.5%) for 2,400 yards, four touchdowns, six interceptions, 15 carries for 65 yards, and two touchdowns in 12 games for the Redblacks in 2022.
In 2023, Arbuckle completed 47 of 78 passes (60.3%) for 461 yards, four interceptions, and three carries for 18 yards in 18 games for the Ottawa Redblacks. The Redblacks did not renew Arbuckle’s contract and he became a free agent on February 13, 2024.
The Toronto Argonauts signed Arbuckle on May 19, 2024. In 2024, he completed 65 of 100 passes (65%) for 799 yards, four touchdowns, three interceptions, five carries, and one tackle for 10 yards in 18 games. He took over the starting job after Chad Kelly broke his ankle in the playoffs.
In the 111th Grey Cup, Arbuckle completed 26 of 37 passes (70.2%) for 252 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions, and two carries for 11 yards leading the Argonauts to a 41-24 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He was named the Grey Cup MVP. It was Toronto’s second Grey Cup title in three seasons.
Collegiately, Arbuckle played two seasons at Los Angeles Pierce College (2012-13) completing 627 of 750 (84%) for 6,626 yards, 66 touchdowns, 29 interceptions, 141 carries for 249 yards, and seven touchdowns in 22 games for the Brahmas.
Then, he transferred to Georgia State (2014-15) completing 566 of 915 passes (61.9%) for 7,651 yards, 51 touchdowns, 29 interceptions, and eight rushing touchdowns in 25 games for the Panthers.
In 2015, Arbuckle set a new Sun-Belt record with 4,368 yards passing and 4,273 yards of total offense, passing Troy’s Levi Brown. He also set a new record at GSU with 307 competitions and 28 touchdown passes. He was named First Team All-Sun Belt Conference.
