The Calgary Stampeders are set to sign defensive back Godfrey Onyeka to a one-year contract through the 2025 season when free agency starts next Tuesday according to 3DownNation reporter John Hodge.
Godfrey Onyeka is six foot two and weighs 200 pounds. The 30-year-old from Brampton, Ontario, re-signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on February 6, 2024. In 2024, he made 10 tackles on special teams in 18 games.
The Edmonton Eskimos drafted Onyeka in the second round (10th pick) in the 2018 CFL Draft. In 2018, he made two tackles in one game, and in 2019 made three tackles and 13 tackles on special teams in 12 games.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed Onyeka as a free agent on February 9, 2021. In 2021, he made 24 tackles and seven tackles on special teams in eight games. In 2022, Onyeka made two tackles and two tackles on special teams in two games. In 2023, made one tackle on special teams in four games. He missed part of the regular season after suffering a torn pectoral muscle.
Collegiately, Onyeka played four seasons at Wilfrid Laurier University (2014-17) making 186 tackles (161 solos, 53 assists), 6.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, ten interceptions for 90 yards, one touchdown, one pass breakup, six forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries in 42 games for the Golden Hawks. He was named a three-time U Sports First Team All-Canadian and a member of the 2016 Yates Cup championship team.
