Report: Defensive back Tre Roberson will not sign with the Ottawa Redblacks

CFL free agent defensive back Tre Roberson will not sign with the Ottawa Redblacks according to the Ottawa Sun reporter Don Brennan. In the report, Brennan said a deal between the two sides fell through and was not salary-cap related.

Tre Roberson is six foot and weighs 196 pounds. The 32-year-old from Indianapolis, Indiana, made 43 tackles, four interceptions, and one touchdown in 17 games for the Stampeders in 2024.

The Minnesota Vikings signed Roberson as an undrafted free agent on May 9, 2016. In 2016, he made five tackles (5 solos) in three preseason games. He spent most of the 2016 season on the practice squad. In 2017, he made five tackles (5 solos) in four preseason games. The Vikings released him on September 2, 2017.

The Calgary Stampeders signed Roberson as a free agent on May 9, 2018. He played two seasons in Calgary making 95 tackles, 10 interceptions, and two forced fumbles in 29 games. The Stampeders released him on January 3, 2020, and he signed with the Chicago Bears on January 28, 2020. In 2020, he suffered a foot injury and did not see any action.

In 2021, he made four tackles (3 solo, 1 assist), one interception for 27 yards, and one touchdown in three preseason games. The Bears released on September 6, 2021. The Calgary Stampeders re-signed Roberson on October 19, 2021. In 2023, he made 51 tackles and two interceptions in 16 games.

In six seasons, Roberson made 215 tackles, 17 interceptions, one touchdown, and four forced fumbles in 70 games. During his time in Calgary, Roberson helped Calgary win the Grey Cup in 2018 and was named a CFL West All-Star and CFL All-Star in 2019.

Collegiately, Roberson played three seasons as a quarterback at Indiana (2011-13) completing 197 of 330 passes (60%) for 2,433 yards, 20 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 206 carries for 982 yards, ten touchdowns, and one tackle (1 solo) in 23 games for the Hoosiers.

Then, Robinson transferred to Illinois State (2014-15) completing 327 of 602 passes (54%) for 5,394 yards, 48 touchdowns, 19 interceptions, 294 carries for 1,806 yards, 22 touchdowns, two punts for 80 yards with a long of 42 yards, one punt from inside the 20-yard line, and three tackles (3 solos) in 28 games for the Redbirds. He was named a two-time First Team All-MVFC, and the Missouri Valley Football Conference Newcomer of the Year in 2014.
