The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are set to re-sign defensive back Jonathan Moxey to a contract extension according to 3DownNation reporter JC Abbott.
Jonathan Moxey is five foot ten and weighs 197 pounds. The 29-year-old from West Palm Beach, Florida, signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on June 3, 2024. In 2024, he made 22 tackles, one tackle on special teams, one sack, and two interceptions in 14 games.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Moxey as an undrafted free agent on May 1, 2017. In 2017, he made eight tackles (8 solos) in four preseason games. The Buccaneers released him on September 19, 2017. Next, the Arizona Cardinals signed Moxey on January 2, 2018. In 2018, he made one tackle (1 solo) in one preseason game. The Cardinals released him on May 10, 2019.
The Calgary Stampeders signed Moxey on June 24, 2019. Moxey played four seasons in Calgary making 70 tackles, 8 tackles on special teams, and three interceptions in 50 games. Moxey was named a CFL West All-Star in 2022 after making 26 tackles and two tackles on special teams.
In 2023, he made 18 tackles and one interception in 16 games. The Stampeders released Moxey on May 3, 2024.
Collegiately, Moxey played four seasons at Boise State (2013-16) making 134 tackles (109 solos, 25 assists), 5.5 tackles for loss, one sack, three interceptions, 34 pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, 12 kick returns for 258 yards, and one punt return for nine yards in 52 games for the Broncos.
In his final season, Moxey had 50 tackles (43 solos, 7 assists), 4.5 tackles for loss, 13 pass breakups, one punt return for nine yards, and 12 kick returns for 258 yards in 13 games. In 2016, he was named Second Team All-Mountain West Conference.
