B.C. Lions sign six players including quarterback Jeremiah Masoli

The B.C. Lions signed quarterback Jeremiah Masoli to a one-year contract through the 2025 season, wide receiver Rysen John to a one-year contract through the 2025 season, offensive lineman David Foucault to a one-year contract through the 2025 season, linebacker Adam Konar to a one-year contract through the 2025 season, linebacker Mich Awe to a two-year contract through the 2026 season, and linebacker Adam Auclair to a one-year contract through the 2025 season on Tuesday.

Jeremiah Masoli is five foot ten and weighs 215 pounds. The 36-year-old from San Francisco, California, completed 102 of 150 passes (68%) for 1,149 yards, five touchdowns, seven interceptions, and six carries for 42 yards in 12 games for the Ottawa Redblacks in 2024.

The San Francisco 49ers signed Masoli as an undrafted free agent on July 30, 2011. The 49ers released him on August 22, 2011. Next, Masoli was drafted by the Omaha Nighthawks (UFL) in the eighth round (38th pick) in the 2011 UFL Draft. He completed 77 of 151 passes (51%) for 808 yards, two touchdowns, five interceptions, 24 carries for 94 yards, and one touchdown in four games.

Then, The Hamilton Tiger-Cats acquired Masoli in a five-player trade on February 5, 2013. He spent eight seasons with the Ticats completing 1,203 of 1,809 completions (66.5%) for 15,555 yards, 80 touchdowns, 51 interceptions, 252 carries for 1,507 yards, and 19 touchdowns in 114 games. Masoli was named CFL East All-Star in 2018.

The Ottawa Redblacks signed Masoli on February 7, 2022. In 2022, Masoli completed 84 of 126 passes (66.7%) for 1,083 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions, 11 carries for 39 yards, and one touchdown in four games before a leg injury sidelined him for the rest of the season.

In 2023, he completed 6 of 10 passes (60%) for 37 yards, and one interception in one game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats before rupturing his left Achilles tendon and he missed the rest of the season.

Collegiately, Masoli played one season at City College of San Francisco in 2007. Then, he transferred to Oregon (2008-09) completing 313 of 544 passes (57.3%) for 3,891 yards, 28 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 248 carries for 1,386 yards, and 23 touchdowns in 24 games for the Ducks. In 2008, Masoli led the Ducks to beat Oklahoma in the Holiday Bowl by the final score of 42-31.

Then, Masoli transferred to Ole Miss in 2010 completing 167 of 296 passes (56.4%) for 2,039 yards, 14 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, 121 carries for 635 yards, and six touchdowns in 12 games for the Rebels.

Rysen John is six foot seven and weighs 246 pounds. The 27-year-old from Surrey, British Columbia, made two catches for 14 yards in six games for the Calgary Stampeders in 2024.

The Calgary Stampeders drafted John in the third round (21st pick) in the 2020 CFL Draft. However, John signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and was on their practice squad. In 2021, John played two preseason games for the Giants with six catches for 72 yards but was placed on injured reserve on August 24, 2021.

Then, the Chicago Bears acquired John via waivers from the New York Giants on May 11, 2022. John played one preseason game for the Chicago Bears in 2022 with one catch for one yard. The Calgary Stampeders re-signed John on February 20, 2023. In 2023, he made two catches for five yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in games.

Collegiately, John played two seasons at Vancouver College (2014-15) making 56 catches for 1,119 yards, and six touchdowns in 24 games for the Fighting Irish. In 2015, John made 48 catches for 1,017 yards (21.2 AVG), and five touchdowns in 13 games. John was named an All-Star after the season.

Then, John transferred to Simon Fraser (2016-19) making 132 catches for 1,928 yards, 20 touchdowns, five carries for 23 yards, one punt return for 11 yards, one tackle (1 solo), one forced fumble, and one blocked punt in 34 games for the Red Leafs.

In his final season, John had 53 catches for 861 yards, ten touchdowns, one forced fumble, and one blocked punt in ten games. He was named SFU’s Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year in 2019.

David Foucault is six foot seven and weighs 315 pounds. The 36-year-old from LaSalle, Quebec, started 18 games for the Edmonton Elks in 2024. Edmonton’s offense averaged 28 points per game, 390.3 net offense per game, 131.4 rushing yards per game, 271.7 passing yards per game, and 29 sacks allowed finishing 7-11 in the 2024 season.

The Carolina Panthers signed Foucault as an undrafted free agent on May 14, 2014. In 2014, he played five games, of which one was a start. The Panthers released him on August 28, 2016.

The Montreal Alouettes drafted Foucault in the first round (5th pick) in the 2014 CFL Draft. The B.C. Lions acquired Foucault’s rights from the Montreal Alouettes on March 27, 2017. Foucault played 51 games in three seasons with the Lions.

Next, Foucault signed with the Montreal Alouettes on February 8, 2021. In 2021, he started 14 games helping the Alouettes reach the Eastern Semi-Final.

The Edmonton Elks signed Foucault on January 3, 2022. Foucault started 53 games in three seasons. In 2023, Edmonton’s offense ranked last in points per game (20.4), fifth in touchdowns (41), seventh in average total yards (324.9), third in average rushing yards (123.6), eighth in average passing yards (221.1), and fifth in sacks allowed (52).

Collegiately, Foucault played four seasons at the University of Montreal (2010-13) helping the Carabins to four straight RSEQ playoff appearances and two RSEQ finals. He began as a defensive lineman before switching to offensive lineman in his second season. He also earned an invite to the East-West Shrine Bowl.

Adam Konar is six foot two and weighs 225 pounds. The 31-year-old from Vancouver, British Columbia, signed with the Calgary Stampeders on January 22, 2024. In 2024, he made three tackles and seven tackles on special team in 17 games.

The Edmonton Elks drafted Konar in the third round (25th pick) in the 2015 CFL Draft. In his first stint, Konar played three seasons with 83 tackles, ten tackles on special teams, two sacks, three interceptions, and two forced fumbles in 29 games, including winning the 2015 Grey Cup championship over the Ottawa Redblacks 26-20.

Next, Konar signed with the B.C. Lions on May 20, 2019. He played two seasons with 12 tackles, 21 tackles on special teams, and one sack in 31 games. The Edmonton Elks re-signed Konar on February 8, 2022. In 2022, Konar made 52 tackles, five tackles on special teams, two sacks, one interception, and two forced fumbles in 18 games this year in Edmonton. In 2023, he made 73 tackles and one tackle for loss in 18 games.

Collegiately, Konar played one season at the University of British Columbia in 2011 with 47 tackles (35 solos, 12 assists), two tackles for loss, one interception, and three pass breakups in eight games for the Thunderbirds. He was named Rookie of the Year.

Next, Konar played for the Langley Rams (CJFL) in 2012 with 16 tackles, five sacks, three pass breakups, three interceptions, one touchdown, and four forced fumbles. He won the B.C. Football Conference’s Outstanding Defensive Player award.

Then, he transferred to the University of Calgary in 2013. He missed the season with a torn ACL. In 2014, Konar made 57 tackles (42 solos, 15 assists), 1.5 tackles for loss, one interception, three pass breakups, and one forced fumble in nine games for the Dinos.

Micah Awe is five foot eleven and weighs 228 pounds. The 31-year-old from Lagos, Nigeria, made 69 tackles and four tackles on special teams in 18 games for the Calgary Stampeders in 2024.

Before Calgary, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Awe as an undrafted free agent on May 9, 2016. In 2016, he made six tackles (6 solos) in four preseason games. The Buccaneers released him on September 9, 2016. Next, the B.C. Lions signed Awe on November 29, 2017. He played two seasons making 85 tackles, 19 tackles on special teams, and one forced fumble in 23 games.

The Toronto Argonauts signed Awe on February 14, 2019. He played one season making 44 tackles, six tackles on special teams, one sack, one interception, and one forced fumble in ten games. The Ottawa Redblacks signed Awe on February 12, 2021. In 2021, he made 74 tackles, two tackles on special teams, three sacks, and two forced fumbles in 14 games.

The B.C. Lions signed Awe on May 21, 2022. He made one tackle in one game before requesting his release which the Lions granted. Shortly after his release, he signed with the Montreal Alouettes on July 7, 2022. In 2022, he made 46 tackles, four tackles on special teams, one interception, and one forced fumble in 13 games for Montreal in 2022.

The Calgary Stampeders signed Awe as a free agent on February 17, 2023. In 2023, he made 134 tackles, six tackles on special teams, two sacks, three interceptions, and one forced fumble in 18 games. He was named a CFL West All-Star and CFL All-Star after the season.

Collegiately, Awe played four seasons at Texas Tech (2012-15) making 237 tackles (159 solos, 78 assists), 9.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, six pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 46 games for the Red Raiders. He was named honorable mention All-Big 12 by the conference coaches, and All-Big 12 second team honoree by the Associated Press in 2015.

Adam Auclair is six foot two and weighs 223 pounds. The 28-year-old from Saint George, Quebec, signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on February 7, 2024. In 2024, he made 37 tackles, 15 tackles on special teams, one sack, and three interceptions in 15 games.

The Ottawa Redblacks drafted Auclair in the first round (6th pick) of the 2020 CFL Draft. In 2023, he made 63 tackles, 14 tackles on special teams, one sack, one interception, and one forced fumble in 18 games. Auclair spent three seasons in Ottawa with 119 tackles, 30 tackles on special teams, two sacks, one interception, and two forced fumbles in 42 games.

Collegiately, Auclair played four seasons at Laval University (2016-19) making 186 tackles (120 solos, 66 assists), 12 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, seven interceptions, and seven pass breakups in 32 games for the Rouge et Or. He helped Laval win two Vanier Cup championships. Auclair was named First Team All-Canadian in 2017, Second Team All-Canadian in 2016, and the winner of the Presidents’ Trophy in 2017.
