Calgary Stampeders sign five players including WR Tevin Jones

The Calgary Stampeders signed running back Jeshrun Antwi to a one-year contract through the 2025 season, wide receiver Tevin Jones to a one-year contract through the 2025 season, linebacker Derrick Moncrief to a one-year contract through the 2025 season, linebacker Fraser Sopik to a one-year contract through the 2025 season, and defensive back Damon Webb to a one-year contract through the 2025 season on Tuesday.

Jeshrun Antwi is six foot and weighs 220 pounds. The 27-year-old from Calgary, Alberta, had 10 carries for 20 yards, five catches for 21 yards, one punt return for two yards, and 11 tackles on special teams in 15 games for the Alouettes in 2024. The B.C. Lions acquired Antwi on October 2, 2024, for a 2025 third-round draft pick. Antwi had nine carries for 73 yards, one tackle, and one tackle on special teams in three games.

The Montreal Alouettes drafted Antwi in the sixth pick (48th pick) of the 2019 CFL Draft but returned to Calgary for his final season. In 2023, Antwi had 39 carries for 229 yards, one touchdown, 11 catches for 75 yards, one kick return for eight yards, and made eight tackles on special teams in 18 games for the Alouettes in 2023 helping them win the Grey Cup.

Antwi spent four seasons in Montreal with 191 carries for 1,025 yards, one touchdown, 52 catches for 342 yards, one kick return for eight yards, two tackles, and 25 tackles on special teams in 61 games.

Collegiately, Antwi played five seasons at the University of Calgary (2015-19) with 366 carries for 2,233 yards, 18 touchdowns, 55 catches for 479 yards, five touchdowns, three kick returns for 44 yards, and three tackles (3 assists) in 38 games for the Dinos. In 2019, Antwi had 53 carries for 279 yards and made seven catches for 57 yards helping the Dinos win the Vanier Cup.

Tevin Jones is six foot two and weighs 225 pounds. The 32-year-old from Amory, Mississippi, signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent on May 6, 2016. He also had stints with the Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, and the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played five NFL regular season games for the Steelers in 2019 making four catches for 61 yards.

Next, Jones signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on April 21, 2022. In 2022, Jones made 20 catches for 265 yards, three touchdowns, and three kick returns for 49 yards in 14 games.

The following season, Jones made 65 catches for 882 yards, and three touchdowns in 17 games for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2023. Then, Jones signed with the Montreal Alouettes on February 7, 2024. He played one preseason game against the Toronto Argonauts in 2024 making two catches for six yards before he was released on June 1, 2024.

The Edmonton Elks signed Jones on June 11, 2024. In 2024, he made 40 catches for 731 yards, five touchdowns, two carries for 13 yards, and one touchdown in 16 games.

Collegiately, Jones played five seasons at Memphis (2011-15) making 90 catches for 1,215 yards, nine touchdowns, 22 carries for 89 yards, two touchdowns, and one touchdown on a blocked punt in 51 games for the Tigers.

Derrick Moncrief is six foot two and weighs 220 pounds. The 31-year-old Prattville, Alabama, signed with the Edmonton Elks on July 7, 2024. In 2024, he made 50 tackles, three sacks, and one interception in 14 games.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed Moncrief on June 3, 2017. Moncrief played three seasons making 126 tackles, six tackles on special teams, four sacks, five interceptions, and one forced fumble in 35 games. He was named a CFL West All-Star and a CFL All-Star in 2019.

After Saskatchewan, Moncrief had stints with the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Rams. On September 7, 2021, Moncrief returned to the CFL signing with the Edmonton Elks. He made 23 tackles, one tackle on special teams, and four sacks in nine games.

Then, Moncrief returned to Saskatchewan on February 8, 2022. In 2022, he made 49 tackles, one tackle on special teams, and four interceptions in 17 games. The following year, Moncrief made 50 tackles and one tackle on special teams in 14 games.

In his second stint in Saskatchewan (2022-23), Moncrief made 99 tackles, two tackles on special teams, and four interceptions in 31 games. He was named a CFL West All-Star in 2022. In 2023, he made 50 tackles and one tackle on special teams in 14 games.

Collegiately, Moncrief played two seasons at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (2012-13) making 67 tackles (47 solos, 20 assists), one forced fumble, three interceptions, and seven pass breakups in 19 games for the Bulldogs.

Next, Moncrief transferred to Auburn in 2014 making 27 tackles (14 solos, 13 assists), one pass breakup, and one forced fumble in 13 games for the Tigers. Then, he transferred to Oklahoma State in 2016 with 16 tackles (9 solo, 7 assists), one interception, and two pass breakups in 13 games for the Cowboys.

Fraser Sopik is six foot and weighs 209 pounds. The 27-year-old from Toronto, Ontario, signed with the Toronto Argonauts on February 13, 2024. In 2024, he made 57 tackles, six tackles on special teams, one sack, and one forced fumble in 15 games.

In the 111th Grey Cup, Sopik made one tackle on special teams and one forced fumble helping the Argonauts win the Grey Cup. It was Toronto’s second Grey Cup in three seasons.

The Calgary Stampeders drafted Sopik in the fourth round (31st pick) of the 2018 CFL Draft. He played three seasons in Calgary with 31 tackles, 30 tackles on special teams, three forced fumbles, and four sacks in 44 games.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Sopik as a free agent on February 15, 2023. In 2023, he made two tackles and eight tackles on special teams in 12 games.

Collegiately, Sopik played four seasons at the University of Western Ontario (2015-18) making 212 tackles (152 solos, 60 assists), 18.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, three interceptions, 11 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and two blocked punts in 39 games for the Mustangs. In 2017, he helped the Mustangs win the Vanier Cup. He won the Bruce Coulter Award in 2017 and won the Presidents’ Trophy in 2018.

Damon Webb is five foot eleven and weighs 195 pounds. The 29-year-old from Detroit, Michigan, re-signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on February 5, 2024. In 2024, he made 68 tackles, one tackle on special teams, two sacks, five interceptions, two touchdowns, and one forced fumble in 18 games. He was named to the All-CFL Team and a CFL East All-Star.

The Tennessee Titans signed Webb as an undrafted free agent on May 11, 2018. In 2018, he made 12 tackles (10 solos, 2 assists) in four preseason games. The Titans released him on July 25, 2019. Next, Webb signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on April 15, 2020. Webb played one and a half seasons in Saskatchewan making 27 tackles, eight tackles on special teams, and two interceptions in 21 games.

The Ottawa Redblacks signed Webb on July 19, 2022. In 2022, he made 34 tackles and one interception for 18 yards in nine games. In 2023, he made 62 tackles, two tackles on special teams, one sack, and three interceptions in 16 games.

Collegiately, Webb played four seasons at Ohio State (2014-17) making 131 tackles (82 solos, 49 assists), four tackles for loss, six interceptions for 110 yards, two touchdowns, seven pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble in 35 games for the Buckeyes.
