
The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed running back Khalen Laborn and offensive lineman Sean McEwen on Wednesday.
Khalan Laborn is five foot eleven and weighs 212 pounds. The 25-year-old from Virginia Beach, Virginia, signed with the Edmonton Elks on September 6, 2023, and was placed on the practice squad. Laborn, along with defensive lineman Jake Ceresna were traded to the Toronto Argonauts on January 15, 2024, for wide receiver Kurleigh Gittens Jr. and a 2024 seventh-round draft pick.
The Argonauts re-signed Laborn on February 15, 2024. He played two preseason games for the Argonauts with seven carries for 32 yards, and one catch for four yards. The Argonauts released him on June 2, 2024. The Ottawa Redblacks signed Laborn on August 11, 2024. In 2024, he had 58 carries for 310 yards, one touchdown, 23 catches for 152 yards, and two tackles in six games.
Collegiately, Laborn played one season at Marshall University in 2022 with 302 carries for 1,513 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 16 catches for 116 yards in 13 games for the Thundering Herd.
Then, Laborn played three seasons at Florida State (2018-20) with 63 carries for 297 yards, four touchdowns, and 11 catches for 103 yards in 12 games for the Seminoles.
Sean McEwen is six foot three and weighs 299 pounds. The 31-year-old from Calgary, Alberta, started 17 games for the Calgary Stampeders in 2024. Calgary’s offense averaged 21.5 points per game, 354.1 net offense per game, 108.6 rushing yards per game, 260.1 passing yards per game, 40 touchdowns, and allowed 30 sacks in 2024.
The Toronto Argonauts drafted McEwen in the first round (3rd pick) of the 2015 CFL Draft. He attended the New York Giants rookie minicamp in 2015 before spending four seasons in Toronto playing 72 games including winning the Grey Cup in 2017. In addition, he was named a CFL East All-Star and CFL All-Star in 2017.
The Calgary Stampeders signed McEwen as a free agent on February 8, 2020. In 2021, he started 14 games for the Stampeders. In 2023, he made 17 starts for the Stampeders. Calgary’s offense ranked fourth in offense average points (21.8), sixth in average rushing yards (99.5), seventh in offensive touchdowns (33) and passing yards average (237.0), eighth in net offense average (321.5), and third in sacks allowed (34). During his time in Calgary, he is a three-time CFL All-Star and a three-time CFL West All-Star.
Collegiately, McEwen played five seasons at the University of Calgary (2011-15) with two tackles (2 assists) in 50 games for the Dinos. In 2012, he was named a conference all-star. In 2015, Calgary averaged 53.40 points per game, 226.8 rushing yards per game, 450.90 passing yards per game, 660.8 total yards per game, 60 touchdowns, and allowed 20 sacks finishing 9-1 for the season.
