The Hamilton Tiger-Cats and defensive lineman Casey Sayles agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2026 season on Friday.
Casey Sayles is six foot four and weighs 282 pounds. The 29-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska, re-signed with the Ticats on February 10, 2024. In 2024, he made 37 tackles and seven sacks in 17 games.
The Los Angeles Rams signed Sayles as an undrafted free agent on April 29, 2017. In 2017, he made six tackles (5 solos, 1 assist), and one sack in four preseason games. The Rams released him on September 2, 2017. Next, Sayles signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on January 18, 2018. In 2018, he made four tackles (3 solos, 1 assist) in four preseason games. The Steelers released him on September 1, 2018.
In 2019, Sayles played for the Birmingham Iron (AAF) making 16 tackles (11 solos, 5 assists) and one sack in eight games before the league ceased operations. The Pittsburgh Steelers re-signed Sayles on April 9, 2019. He made four tackles (2 solos, 2 assists) in four preseason games. The Steelers released him on August 31, 2019.
The St. Louis Battlehawks drafted Sayles in the first round (2nd pick) in Phase 3 of the 2020 XFL Draft. In 2020, he made 12 tackles (5 solos, 7 assists) and one sack in five games before the league suspended operations due to the pandemic. Then, Sayles signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on January 8, 2021. He played two seasons in Winnipeg making 64 tackles, 11 sacks, and two forced fumbles in 32 games. He is a member of the 2021 Blue Bombers Grey Cup championship team.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Sayles as a free agent on February 15, 2023. In 2023, he made 50 tackles and seven sacks for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2023. He was named a CFL East All-Star and CFL All-Star after the season.
Collegiately, Sayles played four seasons at Ohio (2013-16) making 110 tackles (47 solos, 63 assists), 19.5 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, six pass breakups, three fumble recoveries, and four kick returns for 30 yards in 45 games for the Bobcats.
