The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed wide receiver Keaton Bruggeling and offensive lineman Nicolas Melsop on Friday according to the CFL Transactions page.
Keaton Bruggeling is six foot three and weighs 205 pounds. The 26-year-old from St, Catharines, Ontario, made two catches for 23 yards in 13 games for the Ottawa Redblacks in 2024.
The Ottawa Redblacks drafted Bruggeling in the third round (22nd pick) of the 2022 CFL Draft. In 2022, he made five catches for 44 yards in two games. In 2023, he made one catch for 16 yards, and one touchdown in one game.
Collegiately, Bruggeling played two seasons at Carleton University (2019, 2021) making 25 catches for 290 yards, three touchdowns, and three carries for seven yards in 14 games for the Ravens.
Nicolas Melsop is six foot eight and weighs 325 pounds. The 27-year-old from Columbus, Ohio, signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023. In 2023, he suffered an undisclosed injury and did not play in the preseason. The Chargers released him on August 18, 2023.
Collegiately, Melsop played two seasons at Lake Erie College (2016-17) playing tackle in 15 games for the Storm. In 2017, Lake Erie averaged 10.40 points per game, 139.5 rushing yards per game, 107.90 passing yards per game, 247.4 total yards per game, 12 touchdowns, and allowed 30 sacks finishing 2-8 for the season.
Then, Melsop transferred to Delta State University (2019-21) playing 22 games for the Statesmen. In 2021, Delta State averaged 25.7 points per game, 161.4 rushing yards per game, 235.9 passing yards per game, 397.3 total yards per game, 35 touchdowns, and allowed 24 sacks finishing 5-6 for the season. He was named Second Team All-Gulf South Conference in 2021.
