The Houston Roughnecks released running back Brian Burt and offensive lineman Sean Brown on Monday according to the UFL Transactions page.
Brian Burt is five foot eleven and weighs 194 pounds. The 29-year-old from East Wenatchee, Washington, signed with the Houston Roughnecks on July 24, 2024.
Burt went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft. In 2021, he played for the Alphas (TSL) with 49 carries for 216 yards, and seven catches for 37 yards in six games. Next, Burt signed with the Vegas Vipers (XFL) on January 25, 2023. In 2023, Burt had 18 carries for 62 yards, and four catches for 34 yards in six games.
Collegiately, Burt played one season at Ventura College in 2016 with 87 carries for 563 yards, four touchdowns, 14 catches for 212 yards, two touchdowns, two kick returns for 35 yards, and two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist) in 11 games for the Pirates.
He was named Second Team All-Conference. Then, he transferred to Fresno State (2017-18) with two kick returns for 24 yards in seven games for the Bulldogs.
Sean Brown is six foot three and weighs 320 pounds. The 31-year-old from Uniondale, New York, signed with the Albany Firebirds (AFL) on April 1, 2024. He played eight games making two tackles helping the Firebirds to a 7-2 record appearing in ArenaBowl XXXIII against the Billings Outlaws. The Houston Roughnecks signed Brown on August 20, 2024.
Brown was a member of the XFL Team 9 in 2020, a practice squad that supplemented players to all XFL teams in case of injury throughout the season. In 2019, Brown played for the Salt Lake Stallions (AAF), and the Philadelphia Soul (AFL). In 2021, he was with the Generals (TSL).
The Philadelphia Stars drafted Brown in the 20th round (156th pick) in the 2022 USFL Draft. In 2022, Brown played nine games for the Stars helping them reach the USFL Championship Game against the Birmingham Stallions. Philadelphia’s offense ranked sixth in passing (184 yards per game), fifth in rushing (103.4 yards per game), and 31 touchdowns.

After the season, Brown signed with the Pittsburgh Maulers (USFL). However, the Maulers were not included in the USFL and XFL merger that formed the United Football League. Brown became a free agent after not getting drafted in the 2024 UFL Dispersal Draft.
Collegiately, Brown played two seasons at Nassau Community College (2012-13) for the Lions. Then, he transferred to Mississippi Valley State and played two seasons (2014-15) at Mississippi Valley State in 22 games for the Delta Devils.
