The NASCAR Cup Series kicked off the 2025 season on Sunday afternoon with the 67th running of the Daytona 500 from Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. Mother Nature brought rain early in the race but once it cleared, the race was on.
Joe Gibbs Racing driver Chase Briscoe started on the pole with Austin Cindric of Team Penske starting second. With four laps to go, Cole Custer pushed Christopher Bell to start a ten-car wreck which sent the race into overtime.
In overtime, Custer and Chase Briscoe triggered another multi-car crash in the backstretch with William Bryon in the lead. The caution came out just as Byron crossed the start/finish line to win his second consecutive Daytona 500 over Tyler Reddick.
There were eight cautions for 47 laps and 56 lead changes among 15 drivers. Joey Logano led the most laps (43) but was caught in a multi-car crash and finished in 35th place.
The rest of the top ten finishers were Jimmie Johnson third, Chase Briscoe fourth, John Hunter Nemechek fifth, Alex Bowman sixth, Ryan Blaney seventh, Austin Cindric eighth, Justin Allgaier ninth, and Chris Buescher tenth.
