
The Ottawa Redblacks and linebacker Tyron Vrede agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2025 season on Tuesday.
Tyron Vrede is six foot and weighs 231 pounds. The 28-year-old from Amsterdam, Netherlands, re-signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on January 22, 2024. In 2024, he made 16 tackles, three tackles on special teams, and one sack in nine games.
The Redblacks drafted Vrede in the second round (10th pick) of the 2021 CFL Global Draft. In 2023, he made 18 tackles and two tackles on special teams in four games. In three seasons all with Ottawa, Vrede has made 39 tackles, 22 tackles on special teams, and one sack in 40 games.
Vrede played one season for the Amsterdam Crusaders in 2016 where he played in the EFL Bowl. Collegiately, Vrede played one season at West Hills Coalinga College in 2016 making 36 tackles (24 solos, 12 assists), 1.5 tackles for loss, and five pass breakups in nine games for the Falcons.
Next, he transferred to Garden City Community College in 2017 making 28 tackles (20 solos, 8 assists), 5.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, one forced fumble, and one pass breakup in 12 games for the Broncbusters. Then, he transferred to North Dakota (2018-19) making 55 tackles (29 solos, 26 assists), 10 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and two pass breakups in 22 games for the Fighting Hawks.
