
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed running back Johnny Augustine to a one-year contract through the 2025 season on Friday.
Johnny Augustine is five foot nine and weighs 200 pounds. The 31-year-old from Welland, Ontario, re-signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on January 26, 2024. In 2024, he had 27 carries for 135 yards, two touchdowns, three catches for 39 yards, one tackle, and one tackle on special teams in 18 games helping the Blue Bombers appear in their fifth straight Grey Cup.
The Edmonton Elks signed Augustine as an undrafted free agent on May 15, 2017. The Elks released him on June 18, 2017. Next, he attended training camp for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2018. Then, he signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on May 16, 2018.
In 2023, he had 45 carries for 267 yards, one catch for six yards, eight tackles on special teams, four kick returns for 50 yards, and eight tackles on special teams in 18 games.
In six seasons with Winnipeg, Augustine had 222 carries for 1,270 yards, three touchdowns, 17 catches for 169 yards, one touchdown, one tackle, 22 tackles on special teams, and one fumble recovery in 93 games. He is a two-time Grey Cup champion.
Collegiately, Augustine played five seasons at the University of Guelph (2013-17) with 483 carries for 2,742 yards, 28 touchdowns, 39 catches for 485 yards, two touchdowns, and 15 tackles (15 solos) in 35 games for the Gryphons.
