The Repco Supercars Championship continued the Thrifty Sydney 500 weekend on Saturday night with Race 2 at Sydney Motorsports Park.

Monster Castrol Racing driver Cameron Waters started the race on the pole with Red Bull Ampol Racing driver Broc Feeney starting second. At the start of the race, Waters and Feeney were side-by-side heading to Turn 1 with Waters taking the lead. Later in the race, the caution came when Richie Stanaway’s car blew an engine and all the teams went to pit road.

During pit road, Waters lost the lead to Broc Feeney when Will Brown double-stacked behind Feeney blocking Waters from leaving pit road for a few seconds. The race restarted on lap 13.

Ten laps later, Will Brown passed Matthew Payne for third place while Waters began to reel in Feeney. Midway through the race, Broc Feeney made his last pit stop handing the lead to Cameron Waters. Waters pitted on lap 34 handing the lead back to Feeney.

Waters left pit road in fourth place while Feeney’s lead was eight seconds. Waters got past Chaz Mostert and then passed Will Brown on lap 37 for second place. He was seven seconds behind Feeney with 14 laps to go.

Cameron Waters erased the seven-second lead to catch Broc Feeney with six laps to go. On lap 49, Waters tried to pass Feeney from the inside lane at Turn 4 but hit Feeney sending him into a spin. He attempted to redress the incident and Will Brown caught both drivers.

After an investigation, officials did not penalize Waters and it was now a three-car battle for the win. On the last lap, Waters and Brown both tried to pass Feeney for the lead. Heading into the final corner, Waters got alongside Feeney and beat him by 0.03 seconds for his second win of the season.

The rest of the top ten finishers were Will Brown third, Chaz Mostert fourth, Matthew Payne fifth, Thomas Randle sixth, Anton De Pasquale seventh, Andre Heimgartner eighth, James Golding, and Jaxon Evans tenth.
