The Repco Supercars Championship concluded the Thrifty Sydney 500 on Sunday afternoon at Sydney Motorsports Park. Unlike the first two races, Mother Nature brought rain to this rain.
Tickford Racing driver Cameron Waters started the race on the pole for the third straight race with Triple Eight Racing driver Broc Feeney starting in the second position for the third time this weekend.
On the opening lap, Waters cleared Feeney and Will Brown to take the lead heading into Turn 1. Brown got by Feeney to take second place. By lap 10, Waters opened a ten-second lead on Will Brown. With dark clouds looming in the background, teams prepared to put rain tires on the cars.
After the first round cycle of pit stops was complete on lap 20, Waters led Brown by 4.2 seconds. Waters began to distance himself from opening an 8.3-second lead on lap 34. Rain began to fall on lap 39 just as teams were going to pit road for their final stops of the afternoon.
Once the last pit stop cycles were complete, Cameron Waters regained the lead with 10 laps to go as the rain intensified. Waters cruised to his third win of the season by 6.286 seconds over Will Brown.
The rest of the top ten finishers were Chaz Mostert third, Brodie Kostecki fourth, Broc Feeney fifth, Matthew Payne sixth, Anton De Pasquale seventh, James Golding eighth, Will Davison ninth, and Jack Le Brocq tenth.
