The Toronto Argonauts signed offensive lineman Justin Redd and released defensive back Stephane East according to the CFL Transactions page on Monday.
Justin Redd is six foot four and weighs 328 pounds. The 25-year-old from Hampton, Virginia, signed with the Houston Gamblers (now Roughnecks) on December 16, 2023.
In 2024, Redd played 10 games, of which one was a start. Houston’s offense ranked last in total touchdowns (17), seventh in total yards (2,550), rushing yards (744), yards per game (255.0), and fifth in passing yards (1,806). The Roughnecks released him on October 4, 2024.
Collegiately, Redd played five seasons at Norfolk State (2017-21) playing 34 games at right guard for the Spartans. In 2021, the Spartans’ offensive line helped block for the MEAC’s top scoring (33.2), rushing (212.2 YPG), and total offense (440.5 YPG). Redd was named Second Team All-MEAC in 2019 and the MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2021.
Then, Redd transferred to East Carolina in 2022 playing left tackle in 13 games for the Pirates. In 2022, East Carolina averaged 32.54 points per game, 170.6 rushing yards per game, 290.46 passing yards per game, 461.1 total yards per game, 55 touchdowns, and allowed 15 sacks finishing 8-5 for the season.
They helped running back Keaton Mitchell rush for a 1,000-yard season (1,452) for the second straight season and nine 100-plus rushing yards. East Carolina went on to play in the 2022 TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl, where they beat Coastal Carolina 53-29.
Stephane East is six foot two and weighs 190 pounds. The 24-year-old from Toronto, Ontario, went undrafted in the 2024 CFL Draft. The Toronto Argonauts signed East on January 22, 2025.
Collegiately, East attended St. Michael’s College School where he played basketball, volleyball, and track. Then, he transferred to Queen’s University (2019, 2021-23) making 23 tackles (22 solos, 1 assist), three interceptions for 47 yards, and eight pass breakups in 16 games for the Gaels.
