
The Calgary Stampeders signed quarterback/tight end Joey Gatewood on Tuesday according to the CFL Transactions page.
Joey Gatewood is six foot four and weighs 245 pounds. A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Gatewood went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Collegiately, Gatewood played two seasons at Auburn (2018-19) as a quarterback completing 5 of 8 passes (62.5%) for 54 yards, two touchdowns, 32 carries for 176 yards, and three touchdowns in eight games for the Tigers.
Next, he transferred to Kentucky in 2020 completing 17 of 35 passes (48.6%) for 109 yards, one interception, and 25 carries for 62 yards in seven games for the Wildcats. Then, he transferred to the University of Central Florida in 2021 completing 2 of 8 passes (25%) for 17 yards, one touchdown, 28 carries for 142 yards, and one touchdown in 10 games for the Knights.
Gatewood concluded his collegiate career at Louisville in 2023 switching from quarterback to tight end making nine catches for 150 yards, and three touchdowns in 12 games for the Cardinals. After the season, Gatewood played in the Tropical Bowl in Orlando, Florida.
