The NTT IndyCar Series kicked off the 2025 season on Sunday afternoon in the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg from the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida. Team Penske driver Scott McLaughlin started the race on the pole alongside Andretti Autosport driver Colton Herta starting in the second position.

On the opening lap, Will Power made contact with Nolan Segel from behind after Segel checked up at entering Turn 2 and collected Louis Foster in the process. All three cars were out of the race. It was the only caution of the race. On lap 54, Marcus Armstrong brushed the wall at Turn 3 breaking his suspension, and was out of the race finishing in 24th place.

Scott McLaughlin led the opening 31 laps. After the first round of pit stops was complete, he resumed the lead on lap 39. During his pit stop, Marcus Armstrong, Colton Herta, Scott Dixon, and Josef Newgarden all led laps.

When McLaughlin made his second pit stop on lap 45, Christian Lundgaard led 23 laps and Scott Dixon led four laps before McLaughlin retook the lead on 73. McLaughlin led an additional lap before making his final pit stop on lap 74. He led the most laps in the race (40).

Defending series champion Alex Palou made his final pit stop on lap 72, he took the lead on lap 75 after McLaughlin pitted and led the final 25 laps to win the race. On the last lap, Scott Dixon, who had radio throughout the race, passed Josef Newgarden to finish in second place 2.8669 seconds behind Palou.

The rest of the top ten finishers were Josef Newgarden third, Scott McLaughlin fourth, Kyle Kirkwood fifth, Marcus Ericsson sixth, Felix Rosenqvist seventh, Christian Lundgaard eighth, Rinus VeeKay ninth, and Alexander Rossi tenth.
