Calgary Stampeders sign three players including RB Tiyon Evans

The Calgary Stampeders signed running back Tiyon Evans, linebacker Trey Kiser, and defensive back Shon Stephens on Wednesday.

Tiyon Evans is five foot eleven and weighs 210 pounds. The 23-year-old from Hartsville, South Carolina, signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He would later have a brief stint with the Carolina Panthers.

The Houston Gamblers signed Evans as a free agent on December 23, 2023, before they were rebranded as the Roughnecks. In 2024, Evans had five carries for five yards and two catches for 34 yards in four games. The Roughnecks released him on May 21, 2024.

Collegiately, Evans played one season at Hutchinson Community College in 2019 with 61 carries for 538 yards, 44.8 average yards per game, nine touchdowns, four catches for 43 yards, 18 kick returns for 608 yards, and two touchdowns in 12 games for the Blue Dragons.

Next, he transferred to Tennessee in 2021 with 81 carries for 525 yards, 75.0 average yards per game, six touchdowns, four catches for 74 yards, and one touchdown in seven games, of which two were starts for the Volunteers.

Then, he transferred to Louisville in 2022 with 83 carries for 525 yards, 65.6 average yards per game, six touchdowns, and six catches for 13 yards in eight games for the Cardinals.

Trey Kiser is six foot and weighs 224 pounds. The 24-year-old from Norman, Oklahoma, signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2024. Jacksonville released him on July 30, 2024. The New York Giants signed Kiser on August 19, 2024. In 2024, he made one tackle (1 assist) in one game. The Giants released him on August 25, 2024.

Collegiately, Kiser played one season at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in 2019 making 46 tackles (34 solos, 12 assists), five tackles for loss, and one pass breakup in eight games for the Norseman. He was named First Team All-Southwest Junior College Football Conference.

Then, he transferred to South Alabama (2021-23) making 178 tackles (99 solos, 79 assists), 21.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, three pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 38 games for the Jaguars.

In 2023, he made 68 tackles (29 solos, 39 assists), 9.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and two pass breakups in 13 games. He was named a two-time All-Sun Belt Conference Honorable Mention (2021, 2023), and an All-American Honorable Mention by CFN in 2022.

Shon Stephens is five foot ten and weighs 175 pounds. The 26-year-old from Bakersfield, California, signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2024. In 2024, he made one tackle (1 solo) in two preseason games. The Eagles released him on August 27, 2024.

Collegiately, Stephens played two seasons at Bakersfield College (2017-18) making 34 tackles (28 solos, 6 assists), 1.5 tackles for loss, and two pass breakups in 13 games for the Renegades.

Then, he transferred to West Liberty University in 2022 making 37 tackles (34 solos, 3 assists), three tackles for loss, eight interceptions for 148 yards, two touchdowns, 14 pass breakups, 30 kick returns for 651 yards, and two punt returns for 16 yards in 11 games for the Hilltoppers. He was named First Team All-Mountain East Conference.

Then, he transferred to Ferris State in 2023 making 25 tackles (19 solos, 6 assists), 1.5 tackles for loss, eight interceptions for 63 yards, four pass breakups, two kick returns for 137 yards, and one touchdown in 11 games for the Bulldogs. He was named First Team All-GLIAC and the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year.
