
The Arlington Renegades are re-signing running back De’Veon Smith on Friday according to Pro Football Newsroom reporter James Larsen.
De’Veon Smith is five foot eleven and weighs 223 pounds. The 30-year-old from Warren, Ohio, re-signed with the Arlington Renegades on January 24, 2024. In 2024, he had 110 carries for 451 yards, three touchdowns, and 23 catches for 180 yards in 10 games.
The Miami Dolphins signed Smith as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2017. In 2017, he had 12 carries for 35 yards, two catches for eight yards, and three kick returns for 62 yards in four preseason games. In the regular season, Smith made three catches for 27 yards in five games.
The Dolphins released him on November 29, 2017. The Washington Redskins signed Smith on August 20, 2018. In 2018, he had seven carries for 42 yards, one catch for 28 yards, and one touchdown in one preseason game.
Next, Smith played for the Orlando Apollos (AAF) in 2019 with 75 carries for 345 yards, six touchdowns, five catches for 29 yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in eight games before the league ceased operations. The Tampa Bay Vipers (XFL) drafted Smith in the third round (21st pick) in Phase 1 of the 2020 XFL Draft. In 2020, he had 90 carries for 365 yards, seven catches for 62 yards, and two tackles (2 solos) in five games for the league shutdown due to COVID-19.
The B.C. Lions signed Smith on December 15, 2020, and was released on March 19, 2021. Then, the Pittsburgh Maulers (USFL) drafted Smith in the 28th round (225th pick) of the 2022 USFL Draft. However, Smith was released on April 1, 2022.
The Arlington Renegades drafted Smith in the eighth round (59th pick) of the 2023 XFL Supplemental Draft. In 2023, he had 115 carries for 365 yards, seven touchdowns, 18 catches for 148 yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in nine games helping the Renegades win the XFL Championship over the D.C. Defenders.
Collegiately, Smith played four seasons at Michigan (2013-16) with 495 carries for 2,235 yards, 22 touchdowns, 38 catches for 251 yards, one touchdown, and two tackles (2 solos) in 37 games for the Wolverines. He was named a two-time All-Big Ten Honorable Mention (2015-16).
