Arlington Renegades hold on to beat the Houston Roughnecks to stay undefeated

The Arlington Renegades (2-0) hosted the Houston Roughnecks (0-2) on Sunday afternoon from Choctaw Stadium. Both offenses did not look good through three quarters and the game tied 3-3.

The game picked up in the fourth quarter when Arlington quarterback Luis Perez threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Deontay Burnett plus a successful two-point try made it 11-3 with 10:31 left of the game. It was a 15-play drive for 92 yards.

Houston went on a seven-play drive for 67 yards in a minute and forty-four seconds resulting in quarterback Anthony Brown completing a 17-yard touchdown pass to Emmanuel Butler. They attempted a two-point play but did not get making it 11-9 with 1:13 left of the game. They attempted a 4th and 12 play but Brown’s pass intended to Emmanuel Butler was incomplete and the Arlington Renegades held on to an 11-9 win over the Houston Roughnecks.

Arlington had 298 yards of offense. Quarterback Luis Perez completed 19 of 27 passes (70.4%) for 211 yards, one touchdown, and one carry for -1 yard. Running back Dae Dae Hunter led the rushers with 14 carries for 63 yards, and two catches for 22 yards, while Kalen Ballage had 12 carries for 38 yards.

Wide receiver Isaiah Winstead led the receivers making seven catches for 73 yards, and Deontay Burnett made three catches for 27 yards and one touchdown. Kicker Lucas Havrisik made 1 of 2 field goals with a long of 27 yards. The defense made 44 tackles, six tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception, and nine pass breakups.

Houston had 225 yards of offense led by quarterback Anthony Brown completing 14 of 30 passes (46.7%) for 179 yards, one touchdown, one interception, three carries for 20 yards, and one catch for 37 yards. Running back Zaquandre White had six carries for 16 yards, and two catches for 15 yards, while Kirk Merritt had five carries for 14 yards and three catches for 16 yards.

Wide receiver Keke Chism made two catches for 28 yards, while T.J. Vasher made one catch for 23 yards. Kicker Chris Blewitt made one kick with a long of 47 yards. The defense made 60 tackles, nine tackles for loss, three sacks, two pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
