Garrett Stubbs has a two-RBI night as Lehigh Valley extends winning streak

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (9-2) continued their six-game homestand on Wednesday night against the Syracuse Mets (3-7) from Coca-Cola Park. Alan Rangel (0-0, 4.15 ERA) was on the mound for Lehigh Valley against Blade Tidwell (0-1, 5.40 ERA) of Syracuse.

Lehigh Valley catcher Garrett Stubbs went 2 for 3 with a walk and two RBIs. He hit a two-run single in the bottom of the first inning hitting Tidwell’s slider to right field scoring Otto Kemp and Gabriel Rincones Jr. that made it 2-0.

Lehigh Valley third baseman Buddy Kennedy went 1 for 4 with a single and one RBI. His RBI came in the bottom of the third inning hitting Tidwell’s sinker scoring Otto Kemp for a 3-0 lead. Lehigh Valley shortstop Eric Britto went 1 for 3 for a triple and one RBI.

His RBI happened in the bottom of the fourth inning hitting Tidwell’s slider scoring Cal Stevenson making it 4-0. That was all the runs the IronPigs needed as they defeated the Mets 4-2 to extend their winning streak to seven games.

Lehigh Valley starter Alan Rangel pitched five innings, allowing two hits, one run, three walks, and seven strikeouts throwing 86 pitches, of which 55 were strikes picking up his first win of the season. Lehigh Valley relief pitcher Michael Mercado earned his second save of the season pitching one inning, allowing one walk, and one strikeout throwing 13 pitches, of which six were strikes. The loss went to Syracuse starter Blade Tidwell. It was his second loss of the season.
