
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (10-2) took on the Syracuse Mets (3-8) in game three on Thursday night from Coca-Cola Park. Seth Johnson (1-0, 1.93 ERA) was on the mound for Lehigh Valley against Justin Hagenman (0-0, 8.22 ERA).
Lehigh Valley right fielder Gabriel Rincones Jr. had a good night going 3 for 5 with a double, a walk, a home run, and one RBI. It was his second home run of the season. His home run happened in the bottom of the seventh inning hitting Grant Hartwig’s sweeper 374 feet to right field.
Lehigh Valley designated hitter Óscar Mercado also had a good night going 2 for 3 with a double, walk, and three RBIs, and left fielder Cal Stevenson went 1 for 4 with a single, and one RBI as the IronPigs defeated Mets 5-1 to extend their winning streak to eight games. It is the first time since 2012 that Lehigh Valley started the season 10-2.
Lehigh Valley starting pitcher Seth Johnson pitched five innings, allowing two hits, one run, three walks, and six strikeouts throwing 86 pitches, of which 52 were strikes for his second win of the season. Syracuse center fielder Gilberto Celestino was the only player to score a run for the Mets. The loss went to Syracuse starter Justin Hagenman. Lehigh Valley’s bullpen was strong going four innings, allowing two hits, two walks, and five strikeouts.
