Report: San Antonio Brahmas sign DT Matthew Gotel and DB Derrick Langford

The San Antonio Brahmas signed defensive tackle Matthew Gotel and defensive back Derrick Langford on Wednesday according to Pro Football Newsroom reporter James Larsen.

Matthew Gotel is six foot one and weighs 341 pounds. The 26-year-old from Tacoma, Washington, re-signed with the Seattle Seahawks on January 2, 2024. He did not play in the 2024 preseason due to an injury. The Seahawks released him on October 1, 2024.

The Seattle Seahawks signed Gotel as an undrafted free agent on May 6, 2022. In 2022, he made one tackle (1 solo) in one preseason game. The Seahawks released him on August 20, 2022. The San Antonio Brahams drafted Gotel in the first round (2nd pick) in Phase 6 of the 2023 XFL Draft. In 2023, he made 23 tackles (10 solos, 13 assists), six tackles for loss, and one quarterback hit in ten games. The Brahmas released him on August 3, 2023.

The Atlanta Falcons signed Gotel on August 4, 2023, and released him three days later. The Seattle Seahawks signed Gotel on August 17, 2023. He made seven tackles (4 solos, 3 assists) in two preseason games. He spent most of the 2023 season on the practice squad before getting released on November 10, 2023.

Collegiately, Gotel played two seasons at Snow College (2017-18) making 43 tackles (17 solos, 26 assists), seven tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and one pass breakup in 18 games for the Badgers. Then, he transferred to the University of West Florida (2019-21) making 57 tackles (24 solos, 33 assists), nine tackles for loss, four sacks, two pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 25 games for the Argonauts.

Derrick Langford is six foot one and weighs 205 pounds. The 25-year-old from Richmond, California, re-signed with the San Antonio Brahmas on August 27, 2024. He attended training camp and was released on March 20, 2025.

The New York Jets signed Langford as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He played three preseason games with 8 tackles (7 solos, 1 assist), and two pass breakups.

Next, Langford signed with the New Jersey Generals on October 31, 2023. Langford became a free agent after the Generals were not included in the USFL and XFL merger forming the United Football League (UFL). Langford signed with the San Antonio Brahmas on May 16, 2024. In 2024, Langford made two tackles (2 solos) in one game.

Collegiately, Langford played one season at San Francisco Community College in 2018 with 30 tackles (25 solos, 5 assists), one interception, and four pass breakups in 11 games for the Rams.

Then, Langford transferred to Washington State (2019-22) with 91 tackles (60 solos, 31 assists), one tackle for loss, four interceptions for 71 yards, one touchdown, 17 pass breakups, and three forced fumbles in 39 games for the Cougars.
