
The St. Louis Battlehawks re-signed defensive back Avery Young on Thursday according to Pro Football Newsroom reporter James Larsen. This signing comes after the Battlehawks placed defensive back Brandon Sebastian on injured reserve.
Avery Young is six foot and weighs 198 pounds. The 25-year-old from Coatesville, Pennsylvania, signed with the St. Louis Battlehawks on October 25, 2024. He attended training camp and the team released him on March 20, 2025.
The San Francisco 49ers signed Young as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2022. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Young on August 7, 2023. In 2023, he made three tackles (1 solo, 2 assists) in three preseason games. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Young on March 18, 2024. The Ticats released him on May 15, 2024.
Collegiately, Young played five seasons at Rutgers (2018-22) making 326 tackles (169 solos, 157 assists), 10 tackles for loss, three sacks, three interceptions for 31 yards, 26 pass breakups, five forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, three kick returns for 51 yards, and 35 punt returns for 146 yards in 57 games for the Scarlet Knights.
He was named a two-time All-Big Ten Honorable Mention (2020, 2022), two-time All-ECAC Defense (2021-22), Academic All-Big Ten (2020), and won the Iron Knight Award in 2022.
