The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series made its long-awaited return to Rockingham Speedway on Friday for the first time in 12 years. ThorSport Racing driver Jake Garcia started the race on the pole with Front Row Motorsports driver Chandler Smith starting second.
In Stage 1, the first caution came out on the third lap when Connor Mosack got loose at the entrance of Turn 3 collecting Bayley Currey. Jake Garcia led the opening 43 laps before making a pit stop and Layne Riggs took the lead. Riggs led the final three laps to win the stage.
In Stage 2, Kaden Honeycutt was the new leader. He and Grant Enfinger battled for the lead with Honeycutt leading five laps, Enfinger leading 15 laps, and Honeycutt leading an additional seven laps. Layne Riggs reclaimed the lead on lap 78. He led 14 laps to sweep the stage.
In the final stage, Ty Majeski was battling Grant Enfinger for tenth place on lap 109 when he spun after making contact with Enfinger sending him hitting the wall hard at Turn 2 with heavy rear-end damage. The race went to a red flag for crews to repair the safety barrier at Turn 2.
The race resumed on lap 100. Shortly after the race resumed, Rajah Caruth started to get sideways on lap 117 leading to Stewart Friesen to check up but Matt Mills came right behind and hit Friesen in the rear causing a three-truck crash with Tanner Gray. It was the last caution of the race.
Late in the race, Tyler Ankrum took the lead on lap 172. Many teams were conserving fuel in the final five laps. Drivers like Layne Riggs and Chandler Smith both ran out of fuel. Ankrum coasted the truck to victory snapping a 130-winless streak by 6.657 over Jake Garcia. Ankrum’s last win came at Kentucky in 2019.
The rest of the top ten finishers were Daniel Hemric third, Rajah Caruth fourth, Grant Enfinger fifth, Kaden Honeycutt sixth, Jack Wood seventh, Corey Heim eighth, Connor Mosack ninth, and Gio Ruggiero tenth.
