Rodolfo Castro’s two-RBI day helps Lehigh Valley split the series with Gwinnett

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (14-7) concluded a six-game road trip on Sunday afternoon against the Gwinnett Stripers (10-9) from Coolray Field. Alan Rangel (1.0, 4.08 ERA) was on the mound for Lehigh Valley against Davis Daniel (0-1, 5.40 ERA) of Gwinnett.

Gwinnett struck first in the bottom of the third inning when center fielder Carlos Rodríguez hit an RBI double scoring Eddys Leonard for a 1-0 lead. Lehigh Valley struck back at the top of the fourth inning when shortstop Rodolfo Castro hit a two-run double to center field scoring Gabriel Rincones Jr. and Oscar Mercado for a 2-1 lead. Castro went 1 for 3 with a double, a walk, and two RBIs. It was his fourth double of the season.

Lehigh Valley left fielder Weston Wilson went 1 for 5 with a single and one RBI. At the top of the seventh inning, Wilson hit an RBI single to center field scoring Rafael Lantigua extending their lead to 3-1. That was all the runs the IronPigs needed to defeat the Gwinnett Stripers by the final score of 3-1. Lehigh Valley splits the series with Gwinnett 3-3.

Lehigh Valley starter Alan Rangel pitched a good game going five innings, allowing four hits, one run, one walk, and five strikeouts throwing 84 pitches, of which 60 were strikes.

Lehigh Valley relief pitcher Brett de Geus earned his second save of the season pitching one inning, allowing one hit and two strikeouts throwing 30 pitches, of which 20 were strikes. The loss went to Gwinnett starter Davis Daniel.
