Calgary Stampeders add former player Colton Hunchak to the coaching staff

The Calgary Stampeders announced on Tuesday that former wide receiver Colton Hunchak has been added to the coaching staff. Hunchak will be the special teams coordinator and offensive assistant. This addition wraps up Calgary’s 2025 coaching staff.

“I am extremely grateful to be starting the next chapter of my life back here in Calgary with the Stampeders,” said Hunchak. “This is definitely a full-circle moment for me and would like to thank the organization for giving me this opportunity. Everyone in the building is determined to return to our winning ways.”

Colton Hunchak is five foot eleven and weighs 212 pounds. The 27-year-old from Calgary, Alberta, signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on September 24, 2024. In 2024, Hunchak made three catches for 31 yards in three games. He became a free agent after the 2024 season.

The Calgary Stampeders drafted Hunchak in the eighth round (73rd pick) in the 2018 CFL Draft. In four seasons in Calgary, Hunchak made 45 catches for 606 yards and one kick return for 17 yards in 50 games. Hunchak was the 2022 recipient of the Herm Harrison Memorial Award for his work in the community.

In 2023, Hunchak made seven catches for 59 yards in eight games. Hunchak played one preseason game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2024 making one catch for 25 yards. The Stampeders released him on June 2, 2024.

Collegiately, Hunchak played four seasons at York University (2015-18) with 167 catches for 1,953 yards, 18 touchdowns, 14 carries for 37 yards, and three kick returns for 58 yards in 27 games for the Lions. During his senior year, he finished fourth overall in the OUA in receptions (58), eighth in receiving yards (610), and tied for third in touchdowns (6).

He was a two-time OUA Second-Team All-Star. In addition, Hunchak was a three-time provincial All-Star at Notre Dame High School (Calgary, Alberta), and won the silver medal with Team Canada at the 2014 U19 world junior championships in Kuwait.
