
The B.C. Lions signed offensive lineman Blaine Hoover and defensive lineman Tomasi Laulile while releasing defensive tackle Scean Mustin-Sherman on Thursday according to the CFL Transactions page.
Blaine Hoover is six foot six and weighs 270 pounds. A native of Bedias, Texas, Hoover attended the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos rookie minicamps in 2023. In 2024, Hoover played offensive lineman for the Nashville Kats of the Arena Football League.
Collegiately, Hoover began at Trinity Valley Community College in 2018 as a tight end making one catch for three yards, and two tackles (2 assists) in nine games for the Cardinals. Next, he transferred to Tyler Community College in 2019 switching to defensive lineman making 27 tackles (16 solos, 11 assists), 5.5 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks in nine games for the Apache.
Then, he transferred to the University of Incarnate Word (2020-21) making 47 tackles (19 solos, 28 assists), 4.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, and two pass breakups in 16 games for the Cardinals. He was named Third Team All-Southland Conference in 2020, and an All-Southland Conference Honorable Mention in 2021.
Hoover concluded his collegiate career at Tarleton State University in 2022 making 43 tackles (18 solos, 25 assists), 5.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, one pass breakup, and one forced fumble in 11 games for the Texans. His two sacks were the third-most for the team.
Tomasi Laulile is six foot three and weighs 300 pounds. The 29-year-old from Westlake, California, re-signed with the Arlington Renegades on December 23, 2023. In 2024, Laulile made 14 tackles (8 solos, 6 assists), and three tackles for loss in ten games. He became a free agent after the 2024 season.
The Indianapolis Colts signed Laulile as an undrafted free agent on May 1, 2018. In 2018, he made three tackles (1 solo, 2 assists), and one sack in three preseason games. The Colts released him on September 1, 2018, and he signed with the New Orleans Saints on September 27, 2018. The Saints released him on May 13, 2019.
The Dallas Renegades (XFL) signed Laulile on January 24, 2020. In 2020, he made two tackles (2 solos) in five games before the league shutdown due to COVID-19. In 2021, he played for the Jousters of The Spring League.
The Houston Gamblers (USFL) drafted Laulile in the 25th round (204th pick) of the 2022 USFL Draft. In 2022, he made 21 tackles (12 solos, 9 assists), five tackles for loss, half a sack, one pass breakup, two fumble recoveries, and two touchdowns in 10 games. The Gamblers released him on July 29, 2022, and he signed with the San Francisco 49ers on July 30, 2022.
In 2022, he made one tackle (1 solo) in one preseason game. The 49ers released him on August 15, 2022. The Arlington Renegades drafted Laulile in the sixth round (46th pick) of the 2023 XFL Supplemental Draft. In 2023, he made nine tackles (3 solos, 6 assists), one interception for 22 yards, and one touchdown in nine games helping the Renegades win the XFL Championship.
The Renegades released him on August 18, 2023. He spent time with the San Francisco 49ers and the Denver Broncos in 2023 making four tackles (2 solos, 2 assists), and one pass breakup in two preseason games.
Collegiately, Laulile played three seasons at BYU (2014-16) making 47 tackles (28 solos, 19 assists), 11 tackles for loss, six sacks, one interception, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and one touchdown in 33 games for the Cougars.
Scean Mustin-Sherman is six foot two and weighs 320 pounds. The 2-year-old from Fontana, California, signed with the B.C. Lions on September 28, 2024. He spent the 2024 season on the practice. The Lions re-signed him on November 29, 2024.
Mustin-Sherman went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft. In 2023, he played for the Houston Roughnecks (XFL) making 7 tackles (4 solos, 3 assists), one tackle for loss, and one forced fumble in five games. The B.C. Lions signed Mustin-Sherman to a future contract on September 28, 2024.
The Green Bay Blizzard (IFL) signed Mustin-Sherman on February 23, 2024. In 2024, Mustin-Sherman made 24 tackles (12 solos, 12 assists), 8.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, one pass breakup, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one blocked kick in seven games helping the Blizzard reach the Eastern Conference Championship Game.
Collegiately, Mustin-Sherman played one season at Citrus College in 2017 making 21 tackles (8 solos, 13 assists), 6.5 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks in nine games for the Owls. He was named First Team All-Western State Conference.
Then, Mustin-Sherman transferred to Sam Houston State (2018-21) making 55 tackles (28 solos, 27 assists), 17 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, two pass breakups, one fumble recovery, and two blocked kicks in 44 games for the Bearkats. He is a member of the 2020-21 FCS National Championship Team.
